February 10, 2025, WASHINGTON – The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of New Jersey (NSCDA-NJ) is pleased to congratulate Kayla Hill, a student of Rutgers Preparatory School in Somerset, New Jersey, for winning the nationally held Congressional Seminar Essay Contest as a New Jersey delegate for an all-expense paid trip to study at the Washington Workshops Seminar in Washington, D.C. in June 2025.
Kayla looks forward to a career as a civil rights attorney and policymaker so that she can continue uplifting communities by ensuring justice, equity, and representation for all.
For the past 44 years the NSCDA has generously underwritten a national essay contest with the mission of encouraging students from across the United States to gain a greater understanding of our shared American origins and the importance of civic duty.

This year students were asked to “Explain whether existing defamation and libel laws are or are not sufficient to prohibit baseless AI generated and distributed content.” The NSCDA received hundreds of submissions and the winning essays were picked by a committee of NSCDA representatives from among 43 Corporate Societies.
